It's Another Sellout!

Pioneer Las Vegas Bowl to be played before full house for third straight year

Oct. 18, 2007

LAS VEGAS -

Even though the game is more than two months away, the 16th annual Pioneer Las Vegas Bowl sold out of its allotment of tickets on Wednesday to ensure a full house for a third consecutive year.

Executive Director Tina Kunzer-Murphy announced that the game is already technically sold-out almost a month earlier than last year's bowl.

"Every year we are selling out earlier and earlier and our executive committee could not be more thrilled with the response," Kunzer-Murphy said. "After two straight seasons of record-setting crowds, fans and businesses are now making sure they get their tickets starting in the summer because this really has grown into a must-see event in Southern Nevada."

The Pioneer Las Vegas Bowl, which is an ESPN Regional Television (ERT) owned-and-operated event, will once again be broadcast nationally on ESPN and ESPNHD and feature the No. 1 pick from the Mountain West Conference vs. the fourth- or fifth-place team from the Pacific-10 Conference.

The game will be played on Saturday, Dec. 22 beginning at 5 p.m. PST. Last year, the 15th annual Pioneer Las Vegas Bowl attracted a crowd of 44,615 fans, which was the largest to ever watch a team sporting event in the state of Nevada. With Sam Boyd Stadium filled to see BYU defeat Oregon 38-8, the game ranked No. 1 among all 32 college postseason bowls for attendance by percentage. The 2005 game between BYU and Cal produced the first sellout in the game's history by attracting a crowd of 40,053.
