Pacheco, LaFromboise Selected In MLB Draft Head coach Rich Alday completes his UNM career with 36 draftees in 18 years
June 8, 2007 ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - A pair of University of New Mexico baseball players were picked up in the second day of the 2007 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft. Juniors Jordan Pacheco and Bobby LaFromboise were selected in the ninth and 14th rounds, respectively. Pacheco was taken with the 282nd overall pick by the Colorado Rockies while LaFromboise was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks with the 433rd pick. Pacheco, the Mountain West Conference Player of the Year and two-time All-American, produced a team-high .397 batting average with 63 runs, 87 hits, 21 doubles, two triples, five home runs, 50 RBI, 43 walks and seven stolen bases. The Albuquerque, N.M., native led the conference in on-base percentage (.511), runs, doubles and walks. Pacheco is also a three-time All-MWC honoree. Keith Hagman (1979-80) and Aaron Sisk (1998-00) are the only two Lobo to be selected high than Pacheco in the MLB Draft. Both were chosen in the seventh round in their respective drafts.
The Lobos have had a least one player selected in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft 14 of the last 15 straight years. The duo are the 35th and 36th athletes selected in head coach Rich Alday's 18-year career at New Mexico.
