Six MWC Players Selected On First Day Of 2001 MLB Draft San Diego State's Mendoza picked in fifth round by Cleveland.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Mountain West Conference had six players selected through the first 20 rounds of the 2001 Major League Baseball Draft in New York City. The draft concludes tomorrow.
San Diego State junior left-handed pitcher Marcos Mendoza was the conference's
highest pick, selected by the Cleveland Indians in the fifth round. SDSU had
the most players taken with four. In addition to Mendoza, San Diego State
junior outfielder Sean Pierce went to Los Angeles in the ninth round, senior
left-handed pitcher Ben Julianel to St. Louis (12th round) and, senior
left-handed pitcher Mike Garber to Arizona (18th round). UNLV junior
left-handed pitcher Ryan Olson went to the New York Mets in the 10th round.
BYU senior first baseman David Jensen went to Cleveland in the 17th round.
