THIS WEEK IN THE MWC
The MWC wraps up its regular season this week with just 3.5 games separating second through fifth place in the conference standings. The opening game of the second-place BYU (31-18, 14-7 MWC) and third-place Utah (24-26, 12-9 MWC) series will be shown live on BYUTV, Thursday, May 17 at 7 p.m. MT. A replay of the game will be aired via tape delay on The Mtn., Friday, May 18 at 8 p.m. MT. Other conference match-ups for the week will see No. 20 TCU at New Mexico and Air Force at UNLV. San Diego State is idle until next week's MWC Baseball Championship in Las Vegas, Nev.

The 2007 Mountain West Conference Baseball Championship will be hosted by UNLV in Las Vegas, Nev. Six MWC teams will compete in the double-elimination tournament May 23-26. Seedings will be determined by regular-season results in conference games. The championship bracket will be released after the completion of the regular season on Saturday.

All 10 games from the 2007 championship will be shown live on The Mtn., with a re-air of the championship game to be shown nationally on CSTV, Tuesday, May 29 at 6 p.m. MT. The MWC will also provide livestats for all tournament games, while MWC Radio will broadcast each game live from Earl E. Wilson Stadium. Both the livestats and live audio will be available on the MWC website. Log on to the MWC website (www.TheMWC.com) to follow the action.

FOUR MWC STUDENT-ATHLETES NAMED ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT
Four MWC baseball student-athletes were named ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). TCU's Austin Adams was a first-team District 6 selection, while teammate Keith Conlon was second-team District 6 selection. BYU's Jesse Craig and Utah's Jay Brossman were District 8 honorees.

 

 

Adams has a 3.71 grade-point average in Entrepreneurial management, while Conlon, a Masters of liberal arts major, is maintaining a 3.37 GPA. Craig, an Exercise science major, has a 3.80 overall grade-point average and Brossman has a 3.38 grade-point average in Exercise and Sport science.

TCU CLINCHES 2007 MWC REGULAR SEASON TITLE
With No. 23 TCU's 3-1 win over Utah in the final game of the series Sunday, the Horned Frogs claimed their second consecutive MWC regular-season title and the top seed in the upcoming MWC Tournament in Las Vegas. TCU, the 2006 MWC Tournament champion, is currently 18-2 in conference play (37-11 overall), sweeping four of its last five conference foes and winning nine of its last 10 league games overall to claim the crown.

THREE MWC PLAYERS NAMED FINALISTS FOR 2007 WALLACE AWARD
Three MWC student-athletes were named finalists for the 2007 Wallace Award announced by the College Baseball Foundation Wednesday, May 2. New Mexico's Daniel Stovall (Sr., 1B) and Jordan Pacheco (Jr., 2B), and San Diego State's Nick Romero (So., 3B) are a part of the final list of the best 112 NCAA players who are in contention for the award which is presented annually to the national college baseball player of the year.

The Wallace Award selection committee will narrow the list to three finalists following the NCAA Super Regionals, prior to the College World Series. The selection committee is comprised of a national panel of preeminent coaches, sports information directors, former winners and beat media who most closely follow the sport.

TCU TO HOST 2008, 2009 MWC BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Mountain West Conference Baseball Championship will be hosted by TCU in 2008 and 2009. TCU was awarded the hosting rights by the Baseball Championship Selection Committee and Joint Council following a bid process.

The 2008 and 2009 MWC Baseball Championship will be played at Charlie and Marie Lupton Stadium and Williams-Reilly Field on the TCU campus. Constructed in 2001 and 2002, the state-of-the-art ballpark is widely regarded as one of the premier facilities in all of college baseball. The Lupton Stadium seating capacity is 3,500 and has been the Horned Frogs home field since the 2003 season.

The 2008 MWC Baseball Championship will take place May 21-24 (Wednesday-Saturday). The tournament will be a six-team double-elimination format with the top two seeds receiving a first-round bye.
