Utah's Shelton and Bailey Named Mountain West Conference Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, Respectively Both players garner honor for first time this season.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. Utah junior catcher/designated hitter Chris Shelton and junior right-handed pitcher Ryan Bailey are the Mountain West Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively. Shelton, from Salt Lake City, Utah (Salt Lake CC), went 5-for-12 (.417) with eight RBI, four runs scored, two triples and three home runs in three games against UNLV last week. Shelton went 2-for-3 with three RBI, a triple and a two-run home run in Utah's 8-2 series-opening win on Friday, followed by a 1-for-4 performance in the Utes' 6-5 loss on Saturday. In that game, he hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the third inning to pull the Utes within a run, 5-4. On Sunday, Bailey went 2-for-5 with two RBI, a triple and a two-run home run in the Utes' 12-11 win over the Rebels. This is the first player-of-the-week honor in Shelton's career.
Bailey, from Chula Vista, Calif. (Crawford HS), tossed the second complete game in as many weeks in the Utes' 8-2 victory over UNLV on Friday. He faced 34 batters, scattering six hits, allowing two earned runs, while striking out five batters without issuing a walk. This is the first pitcher-of-the-week honor in Bailey's career.
