BYU'S Carson And San Diego State's Skinner Claim McLeodUSA MWC Honors Baseball player and pitcher receive weekly accolades.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - BYU's Matt Carson and San Diego State's John Skinner are the McLeodUSA Mountain West Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.
Carson, a freshman outfielder from Yucaipa, Calif. (Yucaipa HS), batted .500 (6-for-12) with four RBI, four runs, two home runs and one double in the three-game, conference road sweep at UNLV (9-1, 5-3, 9-8). In the series opener, Carson went 3-for-5 with two RBI, two runs and hit his first home run of the season in the Cougars 9-1 victory. Carson closed the series with a 2-for-4 performance with two RBI, a home run and a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning to tie the game at eight. BYU went on to win the game, 9-8. The Cougars have won four in a row and are 12-10 overall and 3-0 in conference action.
Skinner, a right handed pitcher from Dublin, Calif. (Cal State Fullerton), faced 27 batters in seven innings of work, allowing just four hits and striking out nine in the 20-1 victory over Utah in the series opener in San Diego. Skinner notched his first win of the season and allowed two Utah runners on base in an innning only once. He is now 1-4 on the year with a 3.53 ERA. San Diego State is 13-12 overall and 2-1 in league play.
This is the first Player of the Week honor in Carson's career and the first for BYU this season. Skinner picks up the first Pitcher of the Week honor of his career and for San Diego State this season.
