New Mexico's Orrell And Colorado State's Larson Earn MWC Cross Country Honors Orrell led Lobos to first place in the Lori Fitzgerald Invitational.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - University of New Mexico sophomore Chris Orrell and Colorado State junior Marget Larson have been selected as the Mountain West Conference men's and women's cross country athletes of the week, respectively. Orrell recorded his first collegiate victory on Sept. 1 at the Lori Fitzgerald Invitational, finishing the 6.6K race in 21:20. The Albuquerque, N.M., native led New Mexico to a convincing victory at the invite, as the Lobos finished 29 points ahead of second place UTEP. Larson, who hails from Aberdeen, South Dakota, finished first out of 38 runners at the Wyoming Invitatational on Aug. 31. Her time of 14:00 led the Rams to a perfect score of 15, as they claimed the top six spots ( and eight out of the first ten) in the 4K race. The Rams return to action on Sept. 8 as they host the Colorado State Invitational in Fort Collins, while New Mexico takes a couple of weeks off before hosting its University of New Mexico Invitational on Sept. 22 in Albuquerque.
This week in the MWC: Air Force and Wyoming join Colorado State at the Colorado State University Invitational in Fort Collins. The BYU women travel to San Francisco to compete in the Great Race Invite. UNLV travels to Irvine, Calif. for the UC Irvine Invitational. All races are set for Saturday Sept. 8.
