BYU's Roberts and New Mexico's Sari Named MWC Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week

Roberts garners honor for the second time in his career.

Feb. 14, 2001

Colorado Springs, Colo. - BYU senior Jim Roberts and University of New Mexico junior Keren Sari have been selected Mountain West Conference Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively.

Roberts continued his domination in the shot put by recording a first-place finish at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., Feb. 9-10. His mark of 65'06.25" (19.97m) is just under a foot shy of the career best he set last week of 66'10." That mark is over 4 1/2 feet beyond the NCAA automatic qualifying standard and currently puts him amongst the top three shot putters in the nation. The Cleveland, Texas, native earned MWC indoor track honors for the first time this season and the second time in his career.

At the Northern Arizona Invitational in Flagstaff, Ariz., Feb. 10, Sari broke a school record in the long jump with a leap of 19'11." The previous record was a mark of 19'5" set in 1983. In her third meet as a Lobo, the Beer-Sheva, Israel, native has broken her second school record. Earlier this season, Sari broke an 11-year old pentathlon record with a score of 3,671. Sari earned Indoor Track Athlete of the Week honors for the first time of her career.

Up Next: Regular season competition comes to an end this weekend. Air Force hosts Colorado State and other non-conference schools in the Air Force Open Feb. 17. New Mexico travels to the Red Raider Classic in Lubbock, Texas, Feb. 16-17. Wyoming hosts the Robert Shine Invitational Feb. 17.
