SDSU's Heather Heron Advances to 100-Hurdles Final at NCAAs Senior posts sixth-fastest time in Aztec history in semifinal heat

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - San Diego State senior Heather Heron (Yakima, Wash.) advanced to the finals of 100-meter hurdles Wednesday by placing in the top nine of two semifinal heats at the 2005 NCAA Track & Field Championships in Sacramento, Calif. Heron, seeded 17th coming into the meet, ran a personal-best time of 13.25 seconds into a 0.8 mph headwind. She finished fifth in her heat and is ranked eighth overall going into finals, which will be contested at 8:05 p.m. Friday. The time is also the sixth-fastest mark in Aztec history. In the preliminary round, Heron finished fourth in her heat and 14th overall with a 13.52 clocking. Senior Shayla Balentine (Los Osos, Calif.), the second-ranked pole vaulter in the nation, will compete in the qualifying round in the event on Thursday at 7 p.m.
