Lobos Travel To Indiana For Non-Conference Match-Ups
UNM is currently 3-2 in the MWC.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - After a weekend off, the Lobos travel to Bloomington, Indiana Nov. 22-24 for the Indiana Invite and will match up against
non-conference opponents Indiana, Cincinnati, Miami (Florida), Arkansas,
Clemson and Evansville. UNM is currently 3-2 in the MWC after getting wins
against conference opponents, BYU, San Diego State and Wyoming. The Lobos
will be looking for top performances from several key team members this
weekend, including sophomore diver Becca Barras (Kitchener, Ontario),
freshmen Robyn Miller (Yountville, Calif.), Kelsey Leckovic (Burnaby, B.C.)
and Whitney Thomson (Allen, Texas), sophomores Nicole Overeem (Hutchinson,
Kan.) and Aimee Dunavant (El Paso, Texas) as well as senior Myra Will
(Tillamook, Ore.) These seven have played an integral part in UNM's success
and can be credited with a majority of the top-finishes.
THE COMPETITION
Host team Indiana is currently ranked 14th in the country by the College
Swimming Coaches Association of America and is 4-0 after beating
Evansville, Notre Dame, Illinois and Northwestern.
Cinncinnati is currently 2-2 on the season. The Bearcats beat Oakland and
Louisville before losing to Purdue and Georgia Tech.
Miami stands at 1-2 with its only win coming against Florida
International. The Hurricanes suffered two losses at the hands of Florida
State and Tennessee.
Arkansas is off to an excellent start, recording three wins and only one
loss. The three consecutive wins came against Drury, Houston and Alabama.
The Razorbacks¹ only loss was to LSU.
Clemson is currently 3-3 having beaten Maryland, Charleston and Virginia
Tech and lost to second-ranked Georgia, and nationally ranked South
Carolina and California.
Evansville¹s record is set at 1-3 after the Aces lost their home-opener
to Indiana. Most recently the team has beaten Illinois-Chicago and
UW-Milwaukee.
MOST RECENT LOBO MEETS
Nov. 7 vs. San Diego State, BYU, Northern Arizona
The Lobos made history on Nov. 7 when they played host to San Diego
State, BYU and Northern Arizona. Not only did the team win all three of its
dual match-ups, but for the
first time in the history of the New Mexico swim program the Lobos beat
BYU. The Cougars were picked as the preseason MWC title favorites for the
fourth year in a row.
Nicole Overeem (Hutchinson, Kan.) had the best showing for the Lobos,
winning the 1000 free in 10:33.99 and the 500 free (5:11.77).
Lobo senior Myra Will (Tillamook, Ore.) clinched the top spot in the 50
free with a time of 24.03.
Freshman sensation Kelsey Leckovic (Burnaby, B.C.) also garnered a top
spot as she won the 100 free in 52.89.
Divers Tracey Berghian (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Becca Barras (Kitchener,
Ontario) were expectedly strong again for the Lobos. The duo has not
finished lower than third in any meet so far this season. Berghian captured
first-place in the 3-meter event and second in the 1-meter. Barras won the
1-meter and was third in the 3-meter.
Nov. 8-9, Lobo Invitational
UNM grabbed third place in their own invitational meet with 831. 50
points behind San Diego State who had 840.50 and BYU with 948.
Freshman phenom Robyn Miller had another outstanding meet in the cherry
and silver, capturing two firsts and three second-place finishes. She had
the top finishes in the 500 free (5:05.92), 400 IM (4:35.86) and a
second-place finish in 200 IM (2:11.65)
Kelsey Leckovic also played a part in two outstanding finishes. She swam
the 100-yard freestyle in 53.00, which was good enough for first-place. The
freshman was also a part of the top-finishing 400-yard freestyle relay team
made up of fellow freshman Whitney Thomson, sophomore Aimee Dunavant and
junior Heather DiLuzio. The team had almost a two second lead on the
second-place finishers from BYU with a time of 3:36.62.
In addition, Miller and Leckovic were also a part of the No. 2 finishing
teams in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:38.68) and the 800-yard freestyle
relay (7:54.12).
Divers Becca Barras and Tracey Berghian also had a successful meet.
Barras won the 1-meter springboard with 275.50 points and captured second
place in the 3-meter with a score of 466.55. Berghian received third place
in the 1-meter with a score of 242.50 and was also second in the 3-meter
with 462.80 points.
Lobo Honors
UNM sophomore diver Becca Barras has garnered two Diver of the Week
honors (Oct. 31 and Nov. 15) after performances at the UNLV meet on Oct. 6
and the Lobos¹ two home meets Nov. 7 and Nov. 8-9. The scores Barras put up
at the UNLV meet were good enough to give her two firsts in the 1-meter and
3-meter events as well as a berth into the Diving Zones, March 13-15 in
Oklahoma City, Okla. Barras¹ performances Nov. 7, 8, 9, helped UNM capture
its first-ever win over four-time champion BYU as well as accumulate points
in the third place Lobo Invitational finish.
