Final Stats

AKRON, Ohio--With a block assist in the first game, Miami University senior middle hitter Carli Reihman broke Miami's career block assist record. Reihman and the RedHawks defeated Akron in four games on Friday evening, 27-30, 30-24, 30-25, 30-25.

The RedHawks improve to 15-9 on the season and 12-3 in Mid-American Conference action, while Akron dropped to 10-18 overall and 2-13 in league play.

In addition to her record-setting block assist, Reihman served up five of Miami's six service aces and led the RedHawks with 12 digs.

Four RedHawks were in double figures for kills. Junior outside hitter Emily Schroeder led the team with 16 kills, while senior outside hitter Jeanna Staun added 14 kills, junior outside hitter Alex Ratcliff had 12 kills and sophomore middle hitter Megan Griffin tallied 10 kills.

A .100 hitting percentage hindered the RedHawks in the first game. Reihman and Griffin teamed up on a block to knot the game 13-13, and give Reihman the Miami record. The game was tied as late as 23-23, and Miami would pull within one, 26-25, off an Akron attack error, but a block by Jess Antosz and Kara Smith handed the Zips the 30-27 game one win.

Miami built a 17-10 lead in the second game and never looked back. A kill by Staun gave Miami a 28-19 advantage. Akron would get as close as five points, but a Zip service error at game point handed the RedHawks the 30-24 game two win.

A trio to Schroeder kills helped Miami get out of the gates quickly in game three, taking a 7-3 lead. Another Schroeder kill would give the RedHawks a 25-16 lead and the Red and White would roll to the 30-25 game three win.

Again Miami got off to a strong start in game four. A Reihman service ace put the RedHawks at an 8-2 advantage. Akron rattled off four straight points to pull within two, 8-6, but Miami would surge ahead to a 16-9 lead, capped by a Ratcliff kill. Akron got as close as two points, 25-23, but kills by Schroeder and Staun gave Miami a 26-23 cushion. Sophomore setter Andrea Atteberry iced the game with at kill for the 30-25 win.

Miami travels to Buffalo for a 7 p.m. match on Saturday, Nov. 10 in the regular-season finale.
