BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - In its final meet prior to the Mid-American Conference Championships, the Miami University women's track and field team posted three individual wins and tallied 10 additional top-five finishes as it wrapped up competition Friday at the Billy Hayes Invitational.
Sophomores Sarah Landau (Geneva, Ill.) and Kristina Bolterstein (Middleburg Heights, Ohio) placed first in the pole vault (13-5 1/4) and high jump (5-8 3/4), respectively, while junior Quekan Ibidunni (Boulder, Colo.) added a first-place distance in the hammer throw (172-5). Landau's vault was her second highest of the outdoor season, trailing only her height of 13-6 1/2 set at the Southern Ohio Cup. Bolterstein's high jump matched her season-best and career-best outdoor height, while Ibidunni's toss was a career-best mark, besting her previous personal best of 165-3 set last weekend at the National City Invitational.
Miami turned in seven top-five finishes in the track events and had four athletes post season-best marks. Freshman Betsy Allen (Wooster, Ohio) clocked in with a season-best and second-place time in the 400 meters (55.92), while sophomores Sarah Henize (Bucyrus, Ohio) and Jennie Stoll (Pewaukee, Wis.) added season-best marks in the 1,500 meters. Henize finished with a runner-up time of 4:29.95, while Stoll placed fifth with a time of 4:33.83. The RedHawks other season-best performance came from freshman Erin McGowan (Perrysburg, Ohio) with her runner-up finish in the 3,000 meters (10:36.12).
Freshman Alexis Lape (Lancaster, Ohio) was Miami's top hurdler in both the 100- and 400-meter hurdles, placing fourth and fifth, respectively. Lape clocked in at 14.45 in the 100-meter hurdles, missing a season-best time by only .01 seconds, and added a time of 1:02.63 in the 400-meter hurdles. The RedHawks 4x400 meter relay team -- consisting of junior Kim Horning (Granville, Ohio), senior Taryn Nye (St. Johnsbury, Vt.), sophomore Andrea Tepe (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Allen -- also turned in a season-best performance with a third-place time of 3:45.57.
