INDIANAPOLIS - With eight athletes competing at the Indy Relays, the Miami University women's track and field team notched seven top-five finishes Saturday at Michael A. Carroll Track and Field Stadium. Sophomore Sarah Fletcher (Alpharetta, Ga.) placed as the top track athlete with a pair of fourth-place finishes in the 200 meters and 100-meter hurdles, while junior Teresa Bis (Westlake, Ohio) was the top field athlete with top-five showings in both the discus and hammer throw.

In the track events, Miami had four athletes compete in four different events, with Fletcher placing as the top Miami finisher in both the 200 meters (26.48) and 100-meter hurdles (15.73). Both times were season-best marks for Fletcher. Freshman Sydney Stoeher (Cincinnati, Ohio) also placed in both hurdle events, finishing fifth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:08.79) and seventh in the 100-meter hurdles (16.18).

Miami also had two athletes participate in the distance events, with freshman Erin McGowan (Perrysburg, Ohio) and sophomore Mia Fiegelist (Hilliard, Ohio) both finishing in the top 15 in the 1,500 meters. McGowan was the top Miami finisher in sixth (4:58.81), while Fiegelist placed 12th (5:06.62).

Bis and sophomore Elise Bottarini (Lancaster, Ohio) were the two Miami throwers to compete in the Indy Relays, with Bis placing as the top Miami athlete in both the discus (fifth; 124-0) and hammer throw (sixth; 144-5). Bottarini notched two sixth-place finishes in the shot put (39-9 1/4) and hammer throw (139-9) and also placed ninth in the discus (108-0).

Two RedHawk pole vaulters also turned in top five finishes, with junior Jackie Marquardt (Custer Park, Ill.) and senior Jaclyn Benson (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) placing third and fourth, respectively. Both athletes turned in heights of 10-6, good for season-best marks, but Marquardt finished third based on number of misses.

Miami returns to action next weekend when it travels to the Southern Ohio Cup April 22 in Cincinnati, Ohio.
