ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Miami University Senior, Collegiate and Junior Synchronized Skating teams opened up their 2006-07 schedules last weekend at the Dr. Porter Classic at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube. The Senior and Collegiate teams each brought home first-place finishes in their respective divisions, while the upstart junior team finished third-place overall with a combined score of 122.24.

The Senior Team, the defending United States National Champions, took first place in the short program in dominating fashion dismissing the rest of the competition by at least seven points. The Haydenettes, last year's runner-up to the RedHawks at the U.S. Nationals, finished second in the short program scoring 55 points to Miami's 62 first-place points. The Crystallettes from the Dearborn Figure Skating Club (50.50) and Team Elan (46.51) from the Detroit Skating Club closed out the top four scorers, respectively.

The Collegiate Team, also defending its own U.S. National Championship, brought home first place, getting by Western Michigan University 62.18 to 62.07 - a margin of 0.11.

The Junior Team, which begins competing again this season for the first time since 1996, started its journey to qualifying for the World Junior Championships in Nottingham, Great Britain by finishing third overall, behind two Canadian squads. The Junior Team finished sixth in the short program with a score of 45.51, but came on strong in Day 2, posting a third-place finish in the free skate program with a score of 76.73. The first-place finish among the teams from the United States, gives the team confidence as they prepare for the World Junior Qualifier Jan. 5-6, 2007, in Lowell, Mass.
