TOLEDO, Ohio - A golden goal from Toledo's Ali Leak with 13 seconds left in overtime helped the fifth-seeded Rockets down the eighth-seeded Miami University women's soccer team, 1-0, in the semifinals of the Mid-American Conference Soccer Tournament. Miami ended its season with an 8-10-2 mark and its second straight appearance in the conference tournament semifinals.

On a clear and chilly day at Scott Park, Toledo capitalized on a quick free kick in the 105th minute, as Leak broke a scoreless tie with her third goal of the season. After a quick reset by Suzi Siwinski, Leak streaked down the far sideline before putting a move on a Miami defender and scoring the game-winning goal from 12 yards out. With the victory, Toledo became the first higher-seeded team in the MAC Tournament to win a match.

Miami controlled the pace of the game for the majority of the first half and had a pair of quality scoring chances in the game's opening 15 minutes. In the 10th minute, Kathleen Vistica (Monrovia, Md.) put a low line drive on goal that glanced off the arms of Toledo goalkeeper Jen Whipple, but a Rocket defender safely cleared the ball before Miami could pounce on the rebound. Sophomore Danielle Hays (Apex, N.C.) also put a quality shot on goal two minutes later, but her booming kick from the top of the 18-yard box sailed just wide right.

In the 35th minute, the RedHawks best opportunity of the first stanza was denied by a miraculous team save from Toledo. After a scramble in front of the net, freshman Jodi Zwingelberg (Elgin, Ill.) had a shot on an open net with Whipple out of position, but Rocket defender Suzi Siwinski blocked the ball away with her right foot to save a sure-fire goal. Miami then missed another golden opportunity in 39th minute when Vistica played ball through to senior Aimee Prevallet (Fairfax Station, Va.) along the far sideline, but her right-footed shot hit off the side of the net. The first half ended scoreless with Miami holding a 10-3 advantage in shots on goal.

Both teams struggled to string together consistent offensive chances early in the second half. Toledo tested Miami in the 62nd minute with a clean look on goal from 15 yards out, but freshman Krista Pace (Toronto, Ontario) held on for the save. Another Toledo shot on goal in the 67th minute was off the mark and sailed wide left.

Pace made a pair of athletic saves in the 69th and 70th minutes to keep the game scoreless. Toledo's first corner kick of the match came in the 69th minute, but Pace made a nice play on the ball at the near post to thwart the scoring chance. The Rockets also had another opportunity off a 30-yard free kick in the 70th minute, and after the ball was played into the box, Pace made a diving save off a Toledo header to preserve the scoreless tie. Miami nearly scored in the game's final ten seconds off a cross from Jackie Hardek, but regulation ended in a 0-0 tie.

Toledo controlled the first overtime and nearly put home the game winner less than a minute into the first half, but a shot on goal from Heather Wesley went wide left. Toledo also had a pair of corner kicks in the extra frame before Leak capitalized on the quick restart in the final minute of play.

The loss dropped Miami's all-time mark in the MAC Tournament Semifinals to 4-2-0 and its all-time MAC Tournament record to 13-3-1. With the win, Toledo also upped its edge in the all-time series to 6-4-1.

In the first semifinal game, seventh-seeded Northern Illinois blanked sixth-seeded Kent State, 1-0. With the win, the Huskies advanced to their first MAC Tournament Final since 1998. Northern Illinois and Toledo are slated to meet in the finals Sunday at 1 p.m. at Scott Park.
