OXFORD, Ohio--Scoring a goal in both the first and second half, Miami University's women's soccer team won its second straight game in a 2-0 shutout of Northern Illinois University (5-5-3; 2-3-1 Mid-American Conference) on Sunday afternoon to improve to 5-5-3 overall and 3-2-1 in MAC play.
It was the second straight shutout for the RedHawks, who blanked Western Michigan on Friday, 4-0, and the third shutout win of the season for the Red and White. The win also marked the first time this season the RedHawks have recorded back-to-back wins.
Although the RedHawks took just 11 shots on the day compared to Northern Illinois' 24 shots, Miami was able to capitalize twice. Freshman forward Sara Lund gave the RedHawks a 1-0 advantage, scoring an unassisted goal at 11:24. Lund took the ball outside of the box, beating the defender and placing her shot past the goalkeeper in the lower left corner.
In the second half, sophomore forward Jodi Zwingelberg passed the ball to junior forward Jackie Hardek, who gave it right back as Zwingelberg scored the second goal of the game and her first of the season.
Sophomore goalkeeper Krista Pace played all 90 minutes, amassing an impressive 10 saves, five in each half, en route to her fifth win in goal of the season.
Miami continues a four-game home stretch next weekend when the RedHawks host Toledo at 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct 19 and Bowling Green at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 21.
