OXFORD, Ohio -- Looking to end a two-game losing skid, the Miami field hockey team battled back from an early deficit against Indiana but fell just short, losing to the Hoosiers, 2-1, in overtime at the Yager Stadium Complex in Oxford, Ohio.

Indiana controlled the play throughout the first half, out shooting the RedHawks, 6-2. The Hoosiers got on the board first, putting back a rebound goal at the 8:23 mark of the first half when freshman Frederique Meeuwen knocked in her fourth goal of the year unassisted.

In the second half, Miami battled from the onset and put up seven shots of its own to keep the pressure on Indiana. After a yellow card on freshman back Meredith Corriadino at 7:01, things looked bleak for Miami. Playing a man down, the RedHawks took control of an errant Indiana pass deep in the Hoosier end and freshman forward Taylor Florence (Louisville, Ky./Assumption) banged home a rebound goal of her own to tie the game with just over 18 minutes left in regulation. The goal was Florence's third of the year.

The RedHawks and Hoosiers traded scoring chances over the final minutes and headed to overtime, Miami's third overtime contest of the year.

In overtime, it didn't take, Indiana long to end the game, scoring at 2:41 into the first overtime. Meeuwen picked up her second goal of the game.

Senior goalkeeper Kerri Orr (San Diego, Calif./Serra) finished the game with seven saves and now has 130 on the year.

The RedHawks are 5-11 on the season and are in search of their first MAC win this weekend as they travel to Ohio University on Friday for a 3 p.m. start and then Saturday to Kent State to take on the Golden Flashes at 1 p.m. Miami returns home on Oct. 30 versus Louisville for the regular-season finale at 1 p.m.
