KENT, Ohio--Despite a valiant effort, Miami University's field hockey team fell at Kent State University 2-1 in overtime on Saturday afternoon.

Kent State outshot Miami 30-4 and took 16 penalty corners to Miami's 0, but the RedHawks made what shots they took count, and senior Kerri Orr (San Diego, Calif./Serra) had a solid effort for Miami in goal.

Miami got on the board first in the first period when freshman forward Alyssa Nye (Bernville, Pa./Tulpehocken) knocked in an unassisted goal at the 24:45 mark off one of Miami's three shots for the half.

Kent State came back and knotted things up early in the second period (31:21), which eventually sent the contest into overtime, on a goal by Elizabeth Lahey. Just under four minutes into overtime, Kent State's Berber Rischen scored an unassisted goal to hand the Golden Flashes the 2-1 overtime win.

Orr (San Diego, Calif./Serra) staved off 12 Golden Flash shots on 73 minutes and 47 seconds of action.

Miami drops to 6-12 overall and 1-8 in Mid-American Conference play, while Kent State moved to 8-7 overall and 6-2 in MAC action.

The RedHawks round out their regular season on Saturday, Oct. 30, hosting Louisville at 1 p.m.
