MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Senior Brian Godsey (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota East) and junior David Mitchell (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove South) finished 32nd and 33rd, respectively, to help Miami University's men's cross country team to a 10th place finish at the Roy Griak Invitational Saturday afternoon in Minneapolis, Minn.

Godsey finished the 8K course in a season-best time of 24:53 to pace Miami, after finishing second to first-place teammates in each of his first two meets this season. Mitchell, who won the Flyer 5K Challenge on Aug. 29, finished four seconds back, at 24:57. Senior Steve Padgett (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Ursula) was the third RedHawk across the line, finishing 46th in a time of 25:09.

Junior Chris Swisher (Milan, Ind./Milan) finished 77th in 25:33, while sophomore Dan Huling (Geneva, Ill./Geneva Community) took 94th with a time of 25:43, to round out the scoring for Miami. Senior Jerry Claunch (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota East) and freshman Ryan Hutton (Columbus, Ind./North) also ran at the meet, finishing with times of 26:09 and 26:30, respectively.

The No. 37 RedHawks held their own in a field that featured 13 other ranked teams. No. 2 Wisconsin (89 points) won the meet, as their fifth finisher placed behind Mitchell in 34th. Unranked Washington State and No. 39 Arizona proved to be the dark horses in the stiff field, finishing ninth and sixth, respectively. Among the teams Miami finished ahead of was MAC-foe Eastern Michigan, who is ranked No. 10 nationally. The RedHawks also beat four other teams ranked ahead of them in the national poll.

The Red and White have a season-long three-week break before returning to action at the NCAA Preview Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 18. The meet is hosted by Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the home of this year's NCAA Championships.
