OXFORD, Ohio - Miami junior distance runner Dan Huling (Geneva, Ill./Geneva) has been named the Mid-American Conference's Men's Track Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday. Huling was Miami's points leader among track competitors at the Southern Ohio Cup on Saturday at the RedHawks' home track, where Miami took second overall.
Huling earned 12 points by winning the 5000 meters and finishing second in the 1500. His 5000 time, 14:58.59, is Miami's fastest of the year and led Cincinnati's Mike Smith by .81 seconds. In the 1500, Huling finished second in 4:08.77, 1.31 seconds behind senior teammate Chris Swisher (Milan, Ind./Milan).
The junior is one of three athletes to represent Miami at the prestigious Penn Relays this weekend. Huling and Swisher are scheduled to run the 5K at historic Franklin Field in Philadelphia at 9:05 p.m. Thursday, while sophomore Jake Dunkleberger (Smyrna, Ga./The Lovett School), a 2004 All-American hammer thrower, competes in that event at 11 a.m. Saturday.
