OPEN SEASON: After two intense meets the past two weekends and upcoming final exams for all the athletes, the Miami men's track and field team will look for steady improvements at the Cardinal Open on the campus of the University of Louisville on Friday. Four RedHawk runners will also be traveling to the 109th running of the Penn Relays on Thursday.

Freshman Dan Huling, sophomore David Mitchell, junior Jerry Claunch and senior Brian Godsey will all be participating in the 5000-meter run, which is one of 425 races being run this week in Philadelphia, Penn.

NCAA REGIONAL QUALIFIERS: Three more Miami RedHawk track and field athletes earned NCAA Regional Qualifying Standards at the Southern Ohio Cup on Saturday. With the recent additions, seven Miami athletes will compete on May 30th at Ohio State University.

- Sophomore David Mitchell finished the 1500-meter run in 3:46.86, the third fastest time in Miami history. Mitchell's personal best time, which is the fastest in the MAC this season, ranks in the nation's top 35. Mitchell was rewarded with the MAC Track and Field Athlete of the Week accolade and the MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week award.

- Junior Ed Morgan finished the 800-meter run in an NCAA Regional Qualifying time of 1:51.14, which is one of the top-ten times in Miami history on Saturday.

- In the 3000-meter steeplechase, senior Adam Cross earned a qualifying mark with a 9:11.70 time.

At the Miami Invitational on April 12, four RedHawk already set NCAA Regional Qualifying times.

- Senior Brian Godsey won the 5000-meter run with a meet record time, 14:19.3. Godsey's clocking of 14:19.33 also met an NCAA Regional qualifying standard and placed ninth on Miami's all-time top ten list.

- Senior Javin Tucker met the NCAA Regional qualifying mark in the 400-meter hurdles. Tucker blew past the competition with a time of 52.60 for a season best time, which stands eighth on Miami's all-time top ten list.

- The Miami high jumpers put on an exhibition at the meet as both sophomore Erik Reynolds and freshman Kyle Kraus cleared the bar at 2.07 meters to qualify for the NCAA Regional meet.

OUSTING OHIO STATE: The Ohio State Relays were not scored for team competition, but if they were, Miami would have beaten Ohio State, West Virginia, Purdue, Dayton, Ashland and Malone for first-place on April 12. The Red and White had four first-place finishers at the cold meet in Columbus, Ohio.

MOVIN' MITCHELL: Sophomore David Mitchell, a second-team all-MAC cross country runner, appears to be picking up the momentum from the fall cross country season. On March 29, Mitchell easily won the 3000-meter run at the Ball State Relays with a time of 8:36.3. Mitchell led four RedHawks to the top-four spots by easily winning the race by nearly 13 seconds

GA-GA FOR GODSEY: Senior Brian Godsey sure has made a name for himself in the MAC despite being sidelined for nearly a year with Mononucleosis. Godsey won his ninth MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week award on March 25. The award came three days after narrowly winning the 3000-meter run. Godsey finished the distance race in 8:33.09, to barely beat his teammate, Jerry Claunch, who finished in 8:33.11.
