COLUMBIA, Mo. - Senior Tom Herrmann placed 11th in the high jump and junior Michael Veatch finished 17th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase as the Miami University men's track and field team wrapped up competition Saturday at the 2007 NCAA MidEast Regional Track and Field Championships.
As the top placing Miamian at the regional meet, Herrmann notched an 11th-place height of 6-9. After clearing the opening height on his second attempt, Herrmann then missed on three attempts at 6-11, which would have been a new career-high clearance. It was Herrmann's first career appearance at the regional meet.
Also making his first career appearance at the MidEast Regional was Veatch, who turned in a 17th-place time of 9:11.48 in the steeplechase. Veatch finished in front of nine athletes in the event, including three from the Mid-American Conference.
A total of three RedHawks competed at the regional meet, with Herrmann (high jump) and Veatch (steeplechase) making their first career appearances and sophomore Pat Sovacool (1,500 meters) qualifying for the second straight season.
