OXFORD, Ohio (AP) - Antonio Gates and Trevor Huffman scored 18 points apiece for Kent State to lead the Golden Flashes to a 70-67 victory over Miami on Saturday.

Miami earned the No. 7 seed in the Mid-American Conference Tournament and will host No. 10 Buffalo in the first round of the tourney on Monday, March 4 at 7 p.m. in Millett Hall.

A 3-pointer by Huffman with 18 seconds to play gave Kent State the victory after Miami had put together a 28-12 run to tie the game at 67 on a jumper by Alex Shorts with 51 seconds left.

Andrew Mitchell added 16 points for Kent State (24-5, 17-1 Mid-American Conference).

Doug Davis had 26 points for Miami (12-17, 9-9), and Juby Johnson had 16. Davis' 26 points was the seventh time in league play he has scored 20 or more points.

Kent State has won 15 straight and is the first Mid-American team to win 17 in conference play.

Miami shot a season-high 58 percent from the field (26-of-45) but fell short after Kent State had led most of the way. The Golden Flashes were 55 percent from the field (26-of-47).

Kent State led 35-31 at halftime and widened the lead to 19 midway through the second half before Miami made its run. Davis scored 12 points in that run to set up the game-tying jumper by Shorts.

But after the go-ahead basket by Huffman, Davis turned over the ball and a 3-pointer by Johnson just before the horn was no good.
