DEKALB, Ill. (AP) - Marcus Smallwood scored 20 points as Northern Illinois beat Miami 62-54 Wednesday night.

Northern Illinois (8-18, 3-12 Mid American Conference) took a 33-23 lead at the half and held off Miami (15-9, 10-5) converting 19-of-42 from the field and 20-of-25 from the line while the Red Hawks were 18-of-51 and 10-of-13.

The Huskies also got 21 points off their bench while Miami had 12. Mike McKinney had 12 points and Walter Thompson and Perry Smith each had 7. Smallwood had a game-high 12 rebounds.

Chet Mason and Juby Johnson each had 15 points for Miami.
