OXFORD, Ohio (AP) - Alex Shorts scored 19 points and tied Eugene Seals with a team-high seven rebounds to lead Miami to a 78-68 victory over Buffalo on Monday night. The win secured a first-round game at home for the RedHawks in the Mid-American Confernce Tournament.

Miami (12-16, 9-8 Mid-American Conference) and Buffalo (12-16, 7-10) were tied at 30 going into the second half. Miami had already pulled ahead of Buffalo by five points at the 8:58 mark, when the RedHawks began a 12-2 run that ended with Miami leading Buffalo 62-47 with 4:41 remaining.

The Bulls never got closer than eight points the rest of the way.

Seals added 13 points for Miami, while Danny Horace and Chester Mason each added 11. Doug Davis scored 10 points.

Darcel Williams led scoring for Buffalo with a game-high 24 points and led the game in rebounds with 10. Williams scored 16 of his points in the first half. The only other Buffalo player in double figures was Louis Campbell with 11.

Miami scored 19 points off 23 turnovers by the Bulls. Miami also made 75 percent of its free throws, compared with 63 percent for the Bulls.

Buffalo led in shooting from the field, hitting 55 percent, compared with 50 percent by the RedHawks.
