The following are a listing of the student-athletes who have signed national letters of intent during the November signing period. This will be continually updated as letters arrive to campus. Each sport signing student-athletes in November will have a complete release on their sport-specific page on www.MURedHawks.com.
Michelle Oswalt (Lafayette, IN/West Lafayette), a 5-foot-10 shooting guard, is a three-year letterwinner for a West Lafayette High School program that has forged a combined record of 54-17, won two conference titles and made two regional final appearances during her career. Last season, while playing point guard for the Red Devils, Oswalt averaged 15.2 points, 4.3 assists, 4.2 steals and 4.1 rebounds per game. A three-time all-conference and all-area selection, she enters her senior season with more than 1,100 career points to her credit and could break the West Lafayette H.S. career scoring record by the end of the season. She was named the Lafayette Journal & Courier's Big School Player of the Year last year and was tabbed an Indiana Junior All-Star.
Matt Stasiak (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) won the 2006 International Junior Masters and also captured the 2006 FCWT New England Open and the 2005 New York State Junior Amateur. In 2006, Stasiak also finished fifth at the Optimist International Finals at the PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., and placed eighth at the FCWT Tampa Bay Classic and 11th at the AJGA Lessings Classic. Additionally, he advanced to the Sweet 16 of the 2005 New York State Men's Amateur Championship and won the 2005 US Challenge Cup Invitational and 2005 Nike Winternational Series event in Pinehurst, N.C.
Nathan Sutherland (Wyomissing, Pa./Holy Name) finished third at the 2006 PIAA State High School Championship, earning first-team all-state honors. He was the first alternate at 2006 US Open Local Qualifying, 2006 US Junior Amateur Sectional Qualifying and 2006 US Amateur Sectional Qualifying. At the 2006 PA Men's Amateur Championship, Sutherland qualified and made the cut. He also finished fourth at the 2006 FCWT French Creek Open, seventh at the 2006 AJGA Smithfield Junior Championship and 17th at the 2006 AJGA Lessings Classic. In 2005, Sutherland finished fourth at the Pennsylvania Junior Championship, 17th at the AJGA Buick Junior Open and 20th at the AJGA Randall Parker Shootout.
Meghan Mawn --Middle Infielder (Long Beach, Calif./Los Alamitos) A four-year varsity starter at Los Alamitos High School, Mawn earned second-team all-league honors and the team's best defensive player award in 2006. Mawn helped the Griffins win back-to-back Sunset League titles in 2004-05, and she led the team to the Division I California Interscholastic Federation Finals in 2004 and the Semifinals in 2006. The left-handed hitting Mawn has been successful in the club softball ranks as well, helping the SoCal Athletics to a fifth-place finish at last season's 18 Gold Nationals. Mawn also has earned her school's scholar-athlete award and placed on the honor roll.
Kathryn Russette -- Outfielder (Walled Lake, Mich./Walled Lake Central) The left-handed hitting Russette is a multi-sport athlete from Walled Lake Central High School, but her forte has been on the softball diamond. A four-year starter for the Vikings, Russette had her most successful season in 2006, batting .526 with 27 runs scored and 11 stolen bases. She posted an on-base percentage of .571 and a fielding percentage of .942, earning all-division, all-conference, all-region and all-state honors. Russette also was an all-division selection in 2004 and has placed on the honor roll each of the last three years.
Dwight McCombs (Chicago, Ill./Whiney Young), a 6-foot-7, 215-pound forward, averaged 12.4 ppg, 8.7 rpg, 4.0 bpg and 3.0 apg as a junior for Whitney M. Young High School. He is a three-year letterwinner for the Dolphins, serving as team captain as a junior and senior. Last season, McCombs earned all-conference honors. McCombs is touted as one of the top power forwards in the state of Illinois.
Nick Winbush (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Shaker Heights), a 6-foot-7, 197-pound forward, averaged 17.0 ppg and 8.0 rpg as a junior at Shaker Heights High School. He was an all-state honorable mention selection last season and also earned all-league and all-district honors. He is a two year letterwinner for the Raiders and serves as team captain this season.
Michele Metzler (Lawrenceburg, Ind./Lawrenceburg), a 6-foot-1 middle hitter, amassed 1,366 career kills to break the Lawrenceburg High School record. She was a two-time second-team all-state selection, ranking sixth in the state in kills as a junior and 11th in kills as a senior. In 2006, Metzler averaged 5.3 kills, 1.3 blocks and 2.4 digs per game, while posting a .431 hitting percentage and launching 33 service aces. Metzler also was a two-time all-conference selection. She spearheaded Lawrenceburg to three sectional titles and two conference crowns, while amassing a 99-27 record during her four-year career. Metzler has been selected to try out for the Senior Indiana All-Star Team later this month.
