Mickens' Double-Double Leads Roadrunners Over WNMU, 68-50

SILVER CITY, N.M. -- Ashley Mickens had a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds, while also adding four assists, to lead Metro State to a 68-50 victory over Western New Mexico in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference women's basketball game, Thursday evening at Mustang Fieldhouse.

The Roadrunners trailed by eight at the half, 32-24, after shooting just 27 percent from the field, but outscored the Mustangs in the second half, 44-18, to finish the comeback victory.

Metro State hit 10 treys in the game and outrebounded WNMU, 44-23, in the win.

The Roadrunners trailed by seven, 40-33, with under 17 minutes remaining in the game when they went on a 17-2 run to take a 50-42 advantage with less than 10 minutes to go. It was all Metro State from there, as it shot 52 percent from the field, including 5-for-8 from long range, in the second period.

Stephanie Sauter had 20 points, including six three pointers, while Paige Powers added 11 points for Metro State.

With the win, Metro State improves to 8-6 overall, 4-2 in the RMAC, while Western New Mexico falls to 0-13 overall, 0-6 in the RMAC. The Roadrunners are at New Mexico Highlands, Jan. 12 at 6 p.m.
