Roadrunners Fall To Mesa State, 80-71

GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. -- Mesa State had five players in double figures as the Mavericks defeated No. 16-ranked Metro State, 80-71, in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference men's basketball game, Friday evening.

Stephen Soriano posted a double-double for Mesa State with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Jesse Wagstaff led the Roadrunners with 15 points and 11 rebounds for Metro State's first double-double of the season. Marquise Carrington had 11 points, while Benas Veikalas and Willison Price each added 10 points.

The Mavericks shot 56.3 percent for the game, including 11-for-17 from three-point range. The Roadrunners only committed eight turnovers.

The game was tied at 30 with 4:07 to play in the first half but Mesa State went on a 13-3 run to end the half and go into the break with a 10-point lead, 43-33.

With the win, Mesa State improves to 4-2 overall, 1-0 in the RMAC, while Metro State falls to 4-1 overall, 0-1 in the RMAC. The Roadrunners are at Fort Lewis Saturday.
