Hawaii-Hilo Upsets No. 6-ranked Metro State, 70-58

HILO, HAWAII - Hawaii-Hilo scored 21 unanswered points early in the first half and went on to upset No. 6-ranked Metro State, 70-58, late Saturday night at Civic Auditorium.

After the two teams traded buckets to start the contest, the Vulcans scored 21 unanswered points to lead 27-6 just 11 minutes into the game. During that run, the Roadrunners turned the ball over six times and missed five shots.

Drew Williamson scored 17 points and had four rebounds before fouling out. Greg Muth added nine points, while Willison Price had eight points and six boards. Moussa Coulibaly had a team-high seven rebounds. The Roadrunners committed 23 turnovers and shot just 36 percent (18-for-50) from the field.

Hawaii-Hilo converted 26-for-28 from the charity stripe to put the game away.

With the win, Hawaii-Hilo improves to 3-1 overall, while Metro State falls to 2-2. The Roadrunners play their final game in Hawaii Sunday against Western New Mexico at 1 p.m., Hawaii time (4 p.m., MST).
