Metro State Uses First-Half Run To Down Regis, 86-61

Feb. 10, 2007

Box Score

DENVER, COLO. - No. 4-ranked Metro State went on a 23-6 run over the last nine-plus minutes of the first half and went on to defeat Regis, 86-61, in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference men's basketball game, Saturday evening at the Auraria Events Center.

Michael Bahl scored 17 points, while Terrell Burgess had 12 points and four assists and Jesse Wagstaff pulled down eight boards for Metro State. Brandon Butler posted 25 points and five boards for Regis.

Metro State led 17-14 with 9:33 to play in the first period, then went on a 23-6 run to take a 40-20 lead at the break. Regis went just 2-for-10 from the field during that stretch. Metro State forced 12 first-half turnovers and scored 20 points off Ranger miscues. Half of the Roadrunners' points came from their bench. Regis was just 0-for-3 from long range and only 2-for-4 from the free-throw line in the opening period. Burgess had 10 of his points in the first half for Metro State.

"We started a little slow but once we got going, we were able to play Metro State basketball," said forward Willison Price. "We have a lot of depth and guys can come in and have a big night."

The Roadrunners had 22 offensive boards, almost half their total of 45, and had 24 second-chance points. Metro State shot just 39 percent in the contest, the first time in the past five games it did not shoot 50 percent from the floor and its lowest percentage since the loss to Northwest Missouri State in mid-December.

With the win, Metro State improves to 21-2 overall, 14-1 in the RMAC, while Regis falls to 7-15 overall, 2-13 in the RMAC. The Roadrunners are at Chadron State, Feb. 15, at 8 p.m.
