For Regis, Brandon Butler scored 17 points and had 11 rebounds, while Buster Miller added 14 points. Metro State shot 51.6 percent for the game (33-for-64) and outrebounded the Rangers, 32-27. The Roadrunners also forced 19 turnovers and scored 26 points off Regis miscues. Regis converted just 2-for-8 from three-point land, while Metro State was 7-for-20 from long range. "The bottom line is our defensive pressure," said Roadrunner head coach Mike Dunlap. "They couldn't handle it on their offensive side. They definitely got tired at the end." Regis trailed by just 10 at the half and by just 11, 48-37, with 15:13 to play, but Metro State went on a 19-9 run to push the lead to 21, 67-46, over the next seven minutes. The game started close in the first half as Metro State led just 17-14 with 6:55 left in the opening period but the Roadrunners went on a 10-0 run over the next two-plus minutes to lead 27-14. Metro State held a 39-29 lead at the break. Dustin Ballard scored all eight of his points in the first half, while Butler scored nine in the opening stanza. With the win, Metro State improves to 13-5 overall, 7-3 in the RMAC, while Regis falls to 11-7 overall, 6-4 in the RMAC. The Roadrunners host Nebraska-Kearney, Jan. 27, at 7 p.m. |
