Roadrunners Fall On The Road To Western New Mexico, 58-54

SILVER CITY, N.M. -- Lawrence Billings recorded his first career double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds, both career highs, but it was not enough as Western New Mexico defeated Metro State, 58-54, in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference men's basketball game, Thursday evening at Mustang Fieldhouse.

The game was tied at 42 with 5:50 remaining in the game but WNMU went on a 12-5 run to take a seven-point advantage, 54-47, with 59 seconds to go.

The Mustangs dominated at the charity stripe, getting 29 attempts to only five chances for the Roadrunners. Metro State was 3-for-5 at the line, while WNMU was 16-for-29.

Metro State trailed by three at the break, 23-20, after scoring just two points in the final 7:34 of the period.

Marquise Carrington added 12 points for Metro State, while Kris Taylor had 13 points and eight rebounds for WNMU.

The Roadrunners shot just 5-for-17 from three-point land in the game.

With the win, Western New Mexico improves to 8-6 overall, 4-2 in the RMAC, while Metro State falls to 9-8 overall, 2-4 in the RMAC. The Roadrunners are at New Mexico Highlands, Saturday evening at 8 p.m.
