Roadrunners Earn First Four-Game Sweep of Season, 13-8 and 21-6

GOLDEN, COLO. -- Jake Palmer went 3-for-8 with five RBI and Metro State got solid pitching from Josh Eckert and Mike Bilek to sweep Colorado School of Mines, 13-8 and 21-6, in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference baseball action, Sunday at Darden Field.

With the two wins, Metro State completed its first four-game series sweep of the season. The Roadrunners outscored the Orediggers, 63-20, in the series.

In game one, Eckert threw six innings, allowing just six hits and three runs, one earned, while striking out four and walking one.

Metro State trailed 2-0 after three innings but the Roadrunners exploded for 13 runs in the final six innings, scoring in each frame. The Orediggers committed seven errors.

Tommy Frikken had three hits, while Kyle Christensen had two hits and two RBI for Metro State. Caleb Rudkin had three RBI, while John Naccarato had three hits, a home run and two RBI for Mines.

In game two, Bilek went five innings, giving up six hits and three runs, all earned, while striking out five to get his first win of the year. Metro State scored nine runs in the third, five in the fifth and five more in the seventh to finish the sweep. Reece Gorman was 3-for-4 with four RBI, while Ryan Sbresny homered and had four RBI and Dakota Nahm had two hits and five RBI for the Roadrunners. Rudkin was 2-for-4 with three RBI for the Orediggers.

Metro State had 29 hits on the day, while Colorado Mines walked 25 men in the two games.

With the sweep, the Roadrunners improve to 11-25 overall, 9-16 in the RMAC, while Colorado School of Mines falls to 11-30 overall, 6-21 in the RMAC. Metro State is at Colorado Christian, April 20-21.
