First Season

Grant Birely begins his first season as an assistant coach at Metro State in 2007-08. He will serve as the Roadrunners' pitching coach and also help with all aspects of the program.

Prior to coming to Metro State, Birely served as an assistant coach at Regis Jesuit High School for two seasons under head coach Steve Cavnar. While at Regis Jesuit, he worked with the pitchers and helped the Raiders advance to the 5A state quarterfinals in 2007. Birely also played in the Golden Baseball League for the Mesa Miners in 2005.

Birely began his collegiate baseball career at Central Arizona College, where he played the 2002 and 2003 seasons under current Roadrunner head coach Bobby Pierce. He helped Central Arizona to the 2002 junior college national championship. Birely then transferred to the University of New Orleans, where he pitched the 2004 and 2005 seasons. He currently holds the record for most appearances in a season.

A 2005 graduate of the University of New Orleans with a degree in business, Birely is a Colorado native and prepped at Chatfield High School, where he was an all-State selection as a 2001 senior.
