Roadrunner Men Place Fourth at Wyoming Invitational
Sept. 1, 2006
LARAMIE, WYO. -- Led by Todd Tolentino, the Metro State men finished fourth at the Wyoming Invitational, Friday evening in Laramie. Tolentino finished the 4.25 mile race 10th overall in a time of 22:36, while Eiger Erickson was 20th in a time of 23:11. Brice Young ran 23:25 to finish 28th, while Anthony Luna was 29th in a time of 23:26. Air Force won the men's race with 20 points, while Wyoming was second with 30. Colorado State was third with 81 points, while UC-Colorado Springs scored 112 to finish fifth. "It was nice to beat conference foe UCCS, even if it's very early in the season," said Roadrunner head coach Peter Julian. "We sort of took our licks from them last year and the guys wanted to establish themselves right away as a competitive RMAC team. We're looking to have some great team battles with them throughout the year. Todd Tolentino had a strong showing, mixing it up with the leaders over the last mile and a half. It was exciting to watch a Roadrunner racing up front." On the women's side, Desarae Gleason finished 27th overall, running the 2.5 miles in a time of 16:36. Mandi Hepworth was 29th in a time of 16:44, while Veronica Albo placed 30th in a time of 16:48. Colorado State won the women's team competition with 47 points, followed by UC-Colorado Springs with 50, Wyoming with 58 and Air Force with 82. Northern Colorado was fifth with 114 points, followed by Metro State with 128. "Despite finishing at the bottom of the team scores, it's important to note that we were going up against some top notch Division I programs," said Julian. "These women are going to be a very good team come October when everything matters. Deserae Gleason impressed me today as she showed a lot of patience in Laramie's thin air to finish as our top runner." Metro State is back in action at the Woody Greeno Invitational in Lincoln, Neb., Sept. 16.
