Metro State Topples Nebraska-Kearney To Win RMAC Championship, 5-2

PUEBLO, COLO. -- Mark Milner defeated Drew Mercier at No. 4 singles, 6-3, 6-1, to lead No. 2-seed Metro State to a 5-2 victory over top-seeded Nebraska-Kearney in the RMAC Tournament championship match, Saturday morning at Pueblo City Park.

It was the first loss by Nebraska-Kearney to an RMAC team since May 2004.

Milner clinched the team victory with his win. Riley Meyer also won in singles, 6-4, 6-4, over Luke Backhaus at No. 2, while David Scott posted a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Mike Ambriz at No. 6.

The Roadrunners led 2-1 after doubles play, picking up wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Milner and Drew Machholz combined for an 8-1 win at No. 2.

With the win, Metro State improves to 15-8 overall, while the Lopers fall to 11-10 overall. The Roadrunners now await seeding for the NCAA Tournament, which starts in two weeks.
