DENVER, COLO. - Metro State won two out of three doubles matches but No. 17-ranked Cameron bounced back to win five out of six in singles play and defeat the Roadrunners, 6-3, in a nonconference men's tennis match, Friday afternoon at the Auraria Courts. Meanwhile, the No. 36-ranked Cameron women defeated Metro State, 9-0. In the men's match, the Roadrunners won two out of three doubles matches as Sean Carlton and David Scott won 8-6 at No. 3 and Mark Milner and Drew Machholz won in a tiebreaker at No. 2, 9-8. With the score tied at three in the breaker, Metro State won the next three points to lead 6-3 and then closed it out, 7-5. "Overall we gave ourselves every opportunity to win," said Roadrunner head coach Dave Alden. "We had great momentum going into singles by winning two doubles matches. Mark and Drew showed great senior leadership and the ability they have to turn matches. They anchor the heart of our lineup." In singles play, Cameron took a 3-2 lead with wins by Jordi Mullor and Tin Hinst at No. 1 and 2. Mascheroni fought back to win at No. 3 after dropping the first set, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, and Ignacio Murgier defeated Sean Carlton at No. 5, 6-2, 6-3. David Scott got a win for the Roadrunners at No. 6, 6-1, 6-2. The best match was at No. 4 singles. Criado got off to a 3-0 lead and won the first set, 6-4. Milner battled back to win the second, 7-5, and the two went to a super tiebreaker to decide the match. Milner had match points at 9-7 but Criado fought back for a match point of his own at 10-9. Milner saved several match points but Criado closed it out, 16-14. "David Scott played great percentage tennis and played outstanding tennis," said Alden. With the win, Cameron improves to 11-3 overall, while Metro State falls to 7-4. In the women's match, Cameron won all three doubles matches, and did not drop a set in singles play. At No. 1 doubles, Miriam Evangelista and Alecia Jenkins were down 6-1 but closed to 6-4 before Cameron won, 8-5. In singles action, Cameron won five of 12 sets by a 6-0 score.
