Mercyhurst Heads to Indiana Saturday for Western Division Championships

April 18, 2006

Erie, Pa. - Mercyhurst will return to action Saturday as they travel to Indiana University (Bloomington, IN) for the 2006 Western Division Championships. The Lakers, 13-7-1 overall and 5-2 in the conference, are going in as a third seed behind nationally ranked #16 Indiana University and #17 University of Michigan.

Mercyhurst will face the tournament's sixth seed Grove City Saturday at 2:00pm in a first round game. The Wolverines finished the regular season 9-12 and are hungry to reach the ten-win mark for the second time in school history. Leading the way for the Wolverines is All-American goalie Keala Walter.

Mercyhurst comes in riding a four game winning streak, which includes a forfeit against Penn State Behrend. Sophomore Carrie Willison's 47 assists this season breaks her school record from last year and puts her on top of the school's career assist list. Goalie Gina Mieras also has broken the school record this season with 433 career saves.

The winner of the Mercyhurst/Grove City game will play the winner of the Michigan/Washington & Jefferson game Saturday, April 22, at 8:30pm.
