Lakers Place Second At Roberts Wesleyan Tournament
Aug. 25, 2007 Rochester, N.Y. - The Mercyhurst women's volleyball team split two matches on day two of the Roberts Wesleyan Tournament and placed second in the event. The Lakers defeated Point Park 30-26, 30-28, 30-17 before losing to Westmont 30-28, 30-20, 30-26. Mercyhurst finished 3-1 at the tournament after defeating Alderson-Broaddus and Houghton on day one. Freshman outside hitter Kendall Ashworth was named to the all-tournament team in her first collegiate action of her career. In the win over Point Park, Jenna Matson finished with 12 kills and Justine Smith had four blocks. Christine Nisbet and Ashworth had two aces each. In the loss to Westmont, Matson had nine kills and Lauren Kubinski added six. Smith had three blocks and Ashworth finished with 11 digs. Mercyhurst is now 3-1 on the year and will play its home opener Wednesday against Indiana (Pa.) beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the Mercyhurst Athletic Center. |
