Erie, Pa. - The Northwood Timberwolves, ranked 9th nationally at the close of the 2005-06 season, opened their 2006-07 campaign with a 6-3 win over Mercyhurst Friday at the Westwood Racquet Club. The Lakers dropped to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

Senior Jamie Sutyak, playing at #4 singles, won her match (6-3, 6-3) as did freshman Elizabeth Mullane (6-1, 6-0) at #6.

Sophomore Jaclyn McLean and freshman Chelsea Downing prevailed 8-4 at #3 doubles.

Mercyhurst, in the midst of a two-match losing streak, will conclude weekend play Saturday against GLIAC-rival Saginaw Valley State. The contest is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. at Westwood.
