Griffin Named GLIAC Player of the Week
April 2, 2007 BAY CITY, Mich. - Kim Griffin of the Mercyhurst College softball team was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Player of the Week for her efforts against Gannon, Wayne State and Hillsdale. Griffin, who led Mercyhurst in batting average a year ago, broke out of a slump and raised her average from .178 to .279 by going 9-for-16 on the week with a homer and seven runs-batted-in in six games for the Lakers last week. She had a hit in each game during the week, including a three-run homer against rival Gannon, ranked No. 19 in Division II, that propelled the Lakers to a 15-5 win over the Knights. Griffin went 6-for-8 in the three Mercyhurst wins, driving in six of her seven runs on the week in those contests. She also won two of her three starts inside the circle for Mercyhurst during the six games. The Lakers, 10-11 in 2007, host Tiffin in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday, April 4 at 3:00 p.m. Mercyhurst returns to GLIAC action on Friday, with a road twinbill at Saginaw Valley State, then continue on to Northwood on Saturday. |
