Lakers Begin Climb Back Up Top 25

Oct. 17, 2006

Erie, Pa. - The Mercyhurst women's soccer team rose three spots to No. 16 in latest Division II NSCAA/Adidas National Rankings. The Lakers peaked at No. 12 two weeks ago but fell seven spots last week after a 1-0 loss to Charleston.

Mercyhurst won its only contest 4-0 over Northwood this week and remains at the top of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) standings at 5-0. The Lakers are also 13-2 overall. Despite leading the conference, Mercyhurst is ranked behind GLIAC foe Grand Valley State, a team the Lakers beat 3-0, which ranks No. 7 overall. Mercyhurst is also ranked behind No. 14 Indiana (Pa.), another team the Lakers defeated this year.

Nebraska-Omaha continues to pace the field with the No. 1 ranking. West Chester (Pa.), UC-San Diego, Tusculum (Tenn.) and Metro State (Colo.) follow. St. Rose sits one spot in front of Grand Valley State, followed by Tampa (Fla.), West Florida and Seattle. Franklin Pierce (N.H.) and Carson-Newman (Tenn.) rank 11th and 12th, while St. Edward's (Texas) ranks just in front of Indiana (Pa.). Washburn (Kan.) rounds out the top 15, one spot in front of Mercyhurst. Central Oklahoma is No. 17, followed by a two-way tie for 18th in Quincy (Ill.) and St. Leo (Fla.). Adelphi is No. 20.
