Lakers Seventh After Day One of GLIAC Championships

ERIE, Pa. - Mercyhurst is in seventh place after the first round of the GLIAC Golf Championships on the Lakers' home course, Lake View Country Club. Ferris State leads the field by 14 strokes with a 310 (+22) and has dominated the field with the top three individuals. Alison Meyer's 76 makes her the round one leader, but she is just one stroke ahead of teammates Casey McKinnon and Meghan Hunter. Raquel Hansen gave FSU four of the top five after the first round with her fifth place round of 80. For the Lakers, who shot a 385 (+97) on day one, Alanna Kirwan was the top individual with a 91. She is tied for 27th in the 39-player field. Mattye Laurer is 34th with a 95. Jenny Halinda sits in 36th with a 98. Kaitlin Brody, 37th with a 101, and Abby Letson, 39th with a 124, rounded out the Mercyhurst contingent. The Bulldogs closest competition is Grand Valley State, which shot a +36 total of 324. Tracey Puckering is just three shots off the pace with a 76 to lead GVSU. Findlay and Northwood are in a tight battle for third. The Oilers' one-day 338 is just one stroke in front of the Timberwolves' tally of 339. Gannon is fifth with a 343. Sixth place belongs to Ashland with a 352.
