NFHCA Recognizes 13 Lakers
March 5, 2007 ERIE, Pa. - The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) presented Mercyhurst College with a National Academic Team Award and named 13 Laker to the National Academic Squad. Lauren Cohick, Jennifer Coleman, Erin Kelleher, Courtney Loper, Jen Macri, Jocelyn Montmarquet, Vanessa Mourey, Lauren Rinaca, Maria Sanita, Megan Smaling, Emily Warren, Kelsie Weber and Kathryn Wicus were the Lakers named to the national academic team. Mercyhurst finished fifth in Division II with a team GPA of 3.25. Cohick is a senior from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. She had a goal and an assist in 2006 and finished her career with six goals and two assists. A defender, Cohick is an elementary education major with a psychology minor. Coleman is a sophomore Biology Education major from Newfane, New York. In 2006, the back up goalkeeper had seven saves. Kellher, from Forty Fort, Pennsylvania, majors in interior design. With two goals and an assist in 2006, she has 10 scores and five helpers in her career. Loper, a Harrisburg, Pennsylvania native, is an education major. She scored three goals and assisted on four others during her freshman season in 2006. Macri is a sophomore from Mountain Top, Pennsylvania. She did not play in 2006 due to injury. In 2005, she appeared in six games, including one start, and made 14 saves. Montmarquet, a freshman from Amherst, New York, is majoring in interior design with a business minor. She appeared in four games as a freshman in 2006. A Harrisburg, Pennsylvania native, Mourey is a marriage & family studies major minoring in psychology. She tied the season record for assists in 2006, with seven and led the team with 19 points. She also scored six goals. Mourey has nine career goals and 12 assists. Rinaca is a physical therapy major from Pylesville, Maryland. She appeared in eight games as a freshman in 2006. Sanita is a sports medicine major from Lancaster, New York. She appeared in two games in 2006 as a freshman. Smaling is a senior from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania majoring in business management/accounting. With one assist in 2006, she finished her career with one goal and four assists. Warren is an elementary education major with a special education minor. Her seven goals were second on the team and she tied a school record with four in a game. Weber is a pre-dentistry major from Boiling Springs, Pennsylvania. She started nine games as a freshman in 2006. Wicus is an HRIM major from Pittsford, New York. She appeared in four games as a freshman in 2006. The Lakers finished 7-8 in 2006. |
