Field Hockey Rally Falls Short Against C.W. Post
Sept. 9, 2007
Erie, Pa. - Junior Courtney Monin scored her first goal of the season, but the Mercyhurst field hockey team's bid to knock off unbeaten C.W. Post fell short by a 2-1 score Sunday afternoon at Tullio Field. The Lakers (0-5) fell behind on a two goals from C.W. Post's Amber Limanni. The first came unassisted just eight minutes into the opening period. Limanni struck again four minutes into the second following a defensive save by the Lakers. Despite outshooting the Pioneers 18-9 and earning 10 penalty corners, the Lakers were kept off the board by C.W. Post goalkeeper Pam Guernaccini until Monin, after taking the penalty corner, followed Kristen Fogle's blocked shot for her first goal of the season. Monin's goal marks the first time all season that the Pioneers had been scored upon, as they have outscored their four opponents by a combined 17-1. The Lakers kept the offensive pressure on Guernaccini, taking 11 shots and seven corners in the second half alone, but Guernaccini made 10 saves to keep the Lakers from tying the contest. Mercyhurst's Jennifer Coleman made two saves in 70 minutes of action. It is the third time this season that the Lakers have fallen by a 2-1 score. The Lakers look to bounce back on Sept. 14 against Bellarmine at Tullio Field. Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m. |
