Box Score

Erie, Pa. - Katlyn Petit and Julie Anderson combined to score 33 points in their final game at Mercyhurst, but the Laker women's basketball team lost to rival Gannon 76-56 Saturday to end the season.

Petit had 17 points, making 4-of-10 three-pointers, and Anderson had 16 points, seven rebounds and three steals for the Lakers. Senior Priscila Nascimento also played in her final game, finishing with four points, five assists and two steals. Finally, senior Erica Elliott had four rebounds and a steal in 17 minutes off the bench for the Lakers.

Mercyhurst hung with the GLIAC South Champions early, tying the game at 20-20 on a Lindsay Whipkey basket with 6:26 to play in the opening half. But Gannon closed the period on a 19-6 run to build a 39-26 lead.

Petit opened the second half with a three-pointer to cut the deficit to 10 points, but Gannon quickly went on a 13-4 run that put the game away. Mercyhurst got no closer than 14 points the rest of the way.

The Lakers did a solid job in shutting down Gannon's top two players in seniors Christina Jackson and Casey England, holding the pair to a combined 21 points on 4-of-18 shooting. But Kim Vargas came off the bench to make all six of her field goal attempts to lead Gannon with 14 points. Two other players, Carrie Nolan and Kristina Freeman, also scored in double-figures.

Whipkey ended with 10 points and seven rebounds for Mercyhurst, while Stephanie Prischak had nine points, four rebounds and three assists.

Gannon improves to 21-5 on the season and 15-2 in GLIAC play. Mercyhurst ends its season with a record of 6-21 overall and 2-15 in the GLIAC.
