Hillsdale Scores Late To Upend Mercyhurst 67-65 :: Julie Anderson led the Lakers with 24 points and 14 boards

Erie, Pa. - The Mercyhurst women's basketball team chipped away at a ten point deficit in the final 9:14 but Hillsdale scored with eight second to play to beat the Lakers 67-65 on Saturday at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center on Senior Day.

Mercyhurst trailed 50-40 midway through the second half but a lay-up by Julie Anderson gave the Lakers a 60-58 lead with 3:22 to play. The teams traded free-throws until Lindsay Whipkey tied the game at 65 all with a free-throw with 22 seconds to play. Hillsdale's Jenn Carlson scored the game-winning basket for Hillsdale with eight seconds remaining to put the Chargers ahead 67-65. Stephanie Prischak's 10 foot jumper to send the game to overtime rolled off the rim at the buzzer.

In their last games at home, Mercyhurst's four seniors combined to score 46 of the team's 65 points and grab 25 rebounds. Anderson led the Lakers with a double-double, finishing with 24 points and 14 boards. She also set a career high by going 12-of-14 from the line. Katlyn Petit scored 12 points (4-of-8 from the floor, 3-of-7 from beyond the arc, and 1-of-1 at the line) and had seven boards. Priscila Nascimento scored eight points (3-of-7 from the floor and 2-of-2 at the line) and pulled down three boards. Erica Elliott finished her career at home with two points and one rebound.

In the first half, Hillsdale took its biggest lead of the game, 33-19, with 4:51 left in the half on the strength of a 20-9 run. The Lakers then finished the half with a 9-3 spurt to trail 35-28 at the break.

The Lakers started the second half with a 10-6 run to cut the deficit to 41-37 before Hillsdale scored nine of the next 12 points for a 50-40 lead.

For the Chargers, Jenn Carlson finished with 14 points and nine boards. Jodie Haines added 13 points.

The Lakers are now 6-18 overall and 2-12 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). Hillsdale is now 15-7 overall and 10-4 in the GLIAC.

Up next for the Lakers is two road games against Findlay on Thursday, February 15 and Ashland on Saturday, February 17.
