Mercyhurst and Gannon Play Round Two on Tuesday
Oct. 3, 2005 Erie, Pa. - The Mercyhurst and Gannon men's water polo teams will meet for the second time this season Tuesday, October 4 at Gannon's Carneval Athletic Pavilion. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Mercyhurst enters Tuesday's Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) match with a 3-6 overall record and 1-4 CWPA mark. The Lakers defeated Gannon 12-7 in a non-conference match-up on September 24. It was Mercyhurst's first victory in 12 all-time matches between the two schools. The Lakers have dropped consecutive CWPA matches to Washington & Jefferson (11-10), Slippery Rock (16-7), and Washington & Jefferson (11-7) since its victory over Gannon.
Zach Bell leads the Hurst offense with 20 goals and five assists. Andrew Schonhoff owns 17 goals and 10 assists. Jorge Montero completes Mercyhurst's double-digit scorers with 14 goals and 10 assists.
Patrick Staab is expected to start in goal. The senior owns a .418 save percentage in nine starts.
Gannon brings a 2-7 overall record and 2-2 CWPA mark into Tuesday's rivalry match. The Golden Knights finished third with a 3-1 record at the Miami (Ohio) Tournament last weekend, but every match at the tournament was declared an exhibition and didn't count in the overall record.
Christian Torchio and Brennan Lodge have both reached double digits in scoring for the Golden Knights. Torchio leads the way with 16 goals and seven assists. Lodge owns 10 goals and four assists.
Richie DiLoreto or Brandon Thomas will start in goal. DiLoreto has started the last four matches, compiling a .472 save percentage. Thomas posted a .339 save percentage in the first five matches. |
