Box Score

LORETTO, Pa. - Dave Newman hit .579 and had four blocks, but St. Francis (Pa.) outlasted Mercyhurst, 3-0, in men's volleyball action. Game scores were 33-31, 30-20, 32-30.

Newman had a match-high 12 kills and just one error while leading Mercyhurst (1-17) with 16 points in the match. Marcus Dos Santos also had a strong match with nine kills against just a pair of errors. Tim Wagner had 12 points, thanks in large part to his nine kills.

Mercyhurst fell behind in game one, 5-1, before roaring back for an 11-9 lead. The Red Flash once again took the lead at 16-15, but Mercyhurst kept it close the rest of the way, before falling 33-31.

In game three, the Lakers tied things at 30 before St. Francis (11-6) scored the final two points to claim the match.

David Hatten had 34 assists and three blocks.

The Lakers play a pair of home matches next week with Medaille visiting the MAC on March 20 at 7:00 PM and Loyola-Chicago coming to Erie for a 4:00 PM match on March 24.
