Daniel Mudd Named ECAC Player Of The Week

Sept. 19, 2006

Erie, Pa. - Mercyhurst sophomore goalkeeper Daniel Mudd was named Eastern College Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Lakers to three consecutive shutouts.

Mudd, who has played all but 74 minutes in goal this year, recorded eight saves in Mercyhurst's 1-0 win over Southern Indiana. Although the Screaming Eagles held a 19-9 advantage in shots, Mudd kept the Lakers in the game and let teammate Kurt Young's goal in the 18th minute hold up for the win.

Mudd also played in goal for Mercyhurst's 4-0 victories over both Myers and Kentucky Wesleyan. In all, Mercyhurst has recorded six consecutive shutouts and has allowed only three goals all season. The shutout streak is the longest since the team recorded six in a row in 1985.

The award is the second for Mudd this week after also being named GLIAC Player of the Week. He is the second Mercyhurst men's soccer player to be awarded by the ECAC as Tyler Emerick was named Offensive Player of the Week last week.

Mercyhurst is now 7-1 on the year and 2-0 in the GLIAC. The Lakers will look to make it seven consecutive shutout victories Wednesday when the squad plays at rival Gannon at 7 p.m.
